Vintage Modern #1

A  vintage modern quilt bound in marmalade... what could be better than that?

This pretty little stack of fabrics has been waiting for its turn to be cut for four months! We hardly ever buy Moda fabric, so we wanted to be 100% sure about the quilt pattern. After searching and searching, we chose the Sophie pattern  and are happy that we did!

The machine quilting was super easy and makes the quilt loose. We sewed a spiral in each circle to make them pop. The rest of the quilt got waves.

We were worried that those cute white circles up there would be too see-through, but they turned out just great!! This quilt is one that Sarah is keeping... Anna's vintage modern quilt is in process.

Friday

Today we've been listening to Christmas music (YAY!) and binding and washing this lovely.
When we pulled this quilt out of the laundry we were surprised at how crinkly the raw edges became. The quilt pattern is Lissy's Flowers, which was a great quilt to make!

We tried a new kind of machine quilting...waves! The machine quilting adds just enough to the quilt without making it stiff. Instead, this quilt is loose and SUPER bubbly!!

All Packaged Up

We finally clipped the last of the strings on these quilts. If we had a penny for every string we clipped, we would be rich. If we had a penny for every string we didn't clip we would be even richer :) You know how that goes ;)

We always end up folding our quilts multipe times before they can fit in a box. The secret to making a quilt LOOK like it's folded perfectly (even when it's not) is to stick abow and a card on it :)

We finished up the last of our business cards (or else we lost them in all our mess)...either way we needed to print out a fresh batch of Quackadoodle Quilt cards:

You never know where a box has been so we always make sure there's an extra layer between the quilt and the box...(aka tissue paper!)

We're professional at making a quilt fit in any size box. All you need is a little elbow grease! Think: Shove. Now you know all our packaging secrets!

Kaleidoscope

Our kaleidoscope quilt is done! This quilt was a little tricky because we were making it for someone who is color blind. The colors had to be really bright. Luckily, the brown accents make the quilt more toned down…and less like a box of crayons. We were worried that with so many colors it would look too much like a little kid quilt, but it turned out just how we wanted it to.

We used brown thread on this quilt instead of our typical white. We ran out of thread (after four spools!) with only 5 blocks to go…just our luck!

Now we’re off to clip strings and package it up!
